Luke Blake

Luke is a founding Director of Oakwood and a former Police Officer with over twenty years of experience in the risk and resilience sector. He is a seasoned consultant and trainer specialising in operational resilience, crisis management, and security risk management. 


With a background in both corporate and high-risk environments, Luke has a proven track record across public and private sectors, providing practical insight and strategic clarity to complex challenges. He leads the design and delivery of training programs and consultancy services in areas such as business continuity, security risk management, crisis response, and investigations. 


Luke has collaborated with a variety of organisations, from global corporates to critical national infrastructure, assisting teams in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from major incidents. 


Additionally, Luke is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP®) and holds several professional qualifications in security, risk, and resilience, including an MBA focused on Risk and Resilience.

Bryn Frere-Smith

Bryn is a seasoned consultant with specialist expertise in security risk management, investigations, and crisis management. With a diverse background spanning executive protection, complex consultancy, and professional training delivery, they bring a wealth of real-world experience to every course. In addition to their consultancy work, 


Bryn serves as an Independent Advisor to several high-profile private clients and is a former anti-human trafficking investigator, having worked extensively on cases involving vulnerable individuals. 


Bryn is also the founder of Blue Bear Freedom, a registered charity that supports global efforts to combat human trafficking. The organisation sells ethically sourced, single-origin coffee to fund initiatives that protect, equip, and empower children affected by exploitation, enhancing operational resilience in communities impacted by exploitation.

Ross McDermott

Ross has a passion for the skill associated with effective communication in leadership. He sees this as critical for long term efficacy in any role, as well as for more acute, critical incidents and decision making. 


His background as a Police Hostage Negotiator, Counter Terrorism Security Coordinator (CTSecCo), Senior Detective, Specialist Operations Lead, and Incident Commander, is complimented heavily with a career in the corporate sector since January 2017, For this point he has built global experience in Corporate Risk, Security, Safety, Operations leadership all across a number of sectors, including as a Consultant and Trainer, independently of his core roles and responsibilities. 


This experience endows Ross with an ability to support others and their development in the areas of Leadership and Communication, Coaching and Mentoring, managing difficult conversations, Consulting and embedding Organisational Structures and Cultures, Organisational Risk and Resilience, Corporate Safety and Security, Crisis and Incident Management.

Roger Clarke

With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, Roger is an experienced police officer specialising in hostage negotiation and crisis management. Throughout his extensive career, he has honed his expertise as both a Hostage Negotiator and a Hostage Negotiator Trainer, successfully managing high-stress situations to enhance operational resilience. 


As a qualified trainer, Roger runs structured debriefs, providing crucial support and targeted training for teams and individuals after high-risk incidents, ensuring optimal performance and resilience in security risk management. His training experience spans across the globe, with Hostage Negotiator courses in the USA, Canada, and Abu Dhabi, broadening his ability to navigate diverse cultural and situational contexts in international negotiation scenarios. 


A certified TRiM (Trauma Risk Management) trainer, Roger is deeply committed to supporting the mental well-being of staff. Through the delivery of essential tools and strategies, he helps staff manage the psychological challenges of their roles. Roger remains devoted to mentoring and developing the next generation of public and private sector professionals.

Jon Chapman

A highly experienced senior policing leader with over 30 years of service, Jonathan brings exceptional depth of expertise in leading complex, high-risk operations at both strategic and tactical levels. His career has been defined by operating in demanding environments where effective leadership, clear decision-making and resilience under pressure are critical to success.


Jonathan specialises in high-risk command, counter-terrorism preparedness and organisational resilience. He has extensive experience in planning for and responding to major incidents, working at the forefront of multi-agency coordination, threat management and crisis response. His insight into the realities of operational command enables him to translate complex challenges into practical, actionable strategies for organisations.


With a strong focus on crisis leadership and decision-making, Jonathan supports senior leaders in developing the confidence and capability required to operate effectively under pressure. He understands the human and organisational dynamics that influence performance in high-stakes situations, and incorporates these into his approach to both consultancy and training.


Alongside his operational background, Jonathan is an accomplished associate trainer, delivering strategic command training to senior leaders across the UK. His delivery style is grounded in real-world experience, ensuring that learning is practical, credible and immediately applicable. Through his work, he helps organisations strengthen their resilience, enhance leadership capability and prepare for the challenges of an increasingly complex risk landscape.

Chris Adams

Chris is a business resilience professional with deep experience in continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis response. At StoneX, a Fortune 100 financial services firm, he led global efforts to strengthen recovery strategies, coordinate application-level crisis teams, and support leadership during high-impact events. 


He’s played a key role in navigating real-world incidents, including major cyber disruptions, and brings a steady, structured approach to complex problems. With a background in criminal and financial investigations, Chris approaches risk with a sharp eye for detail and a practical mindset. 


Chris is particularly passionate about crisis leadership, helping teams stay clear-headed and effective when pressure is high. From building tactical response plans to running executive-level scenario exercises, his focus is on making resilience real: not just policies on paper, but strategies that hold up when tested. Chris believes resilience is about readiness, clarity, and people, and he’s committed to helping organisations strengthen all three.
